Jeremy B. Merrill is...
currently a sophomore at Claremont McKenna College, where he is pursuing a dual major in Linguistics and Philosophy. He also enjoys taking courses in computer science and Arabic. He was one of two 2010-2011 Woolley Fellows at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, where he enjoyed meeting noteworthy leading scholars and leaders in a wide variety of fields.
Jeremy grew up in Durham, North Carolina, where he attended the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, a prestigious public, state-run boarding school for students excelling in science and mathematics. There, he was active in the North Carolina Democratic Party and in his synagogue, where he taught Hebrew school.
At Claremont McKenna, Jeremy maintains a GPA above 3.7/4.00, while participating in a number of extracurricular activities. He is a Senior Writer at the Claremont Port Side, a progressive campus political journal. He works as an Instructional Technology Assistant, digitizing course materials for professors, as well as learning to use various graphic design tools. Jeremy is particularly excited to work with Prof. Ward Elliott on a project to use computerized statistical analysis techniques based on word usage to determine the authors of the Shakespeare Apocrypha, a collection of Early Modern plays possibly written by Shakespeare.
In his free time, Jeremy enjoys reading philosophy, fiction (particularly Borges, Eco and Dostoyevsky), linguistics and economics. He also enjoys discussing politics. He does not watch television.
